Small Business Optimism Hits 6-Month Low Amid Government Shutdown Concerns
Small business Optimism declined for the second consecutive month in October, reaching its lowest level since April, according to the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The NFIB Small Business Index dipped to 98.2, barely above its 52-year average, as owners cited hiring challenges, weaker sales, and profit declines tied to the government shutdown.
"The shutdown will be resolved by year-end, hopefully sooner, but until then our economic measures will show weak growth expectations," the NFIB noted. With small businesses accounting for 60% of new U.S. job creation, prolonged uncertainty risks broader economic Ripple effects.
